Majestic as a Rainbow (Cup & Bowl)
Of all Taiwan’s indigenous peoples, only the Atayal, Seediq and Truku have the tradition of facial tattoos. Those with this spiritual mark could cross the Rainbow Bridge and unite with their ancestors. On the cup are the long linear tattoos on the men’s foreheads and chins, symbolizing long life, and on the bowls are the V-shaped patterns on the women’s foreheads and cheeks, representing victory.

Inspired by the culture of the Atayal tribe, this product is a unique and exquisite mug set. The Atayal tribe is a small indigenous group living in the mountains of Taiwan, known for their distinctive facial tattooing (patas) tradition. The facial tattooing is a sign of maturity and social status, and a prerequisite for marriage among the Atayal people. The mug set has vertical and horizontal lines that mimic the tattoos of the Atayal men and women, reflecting their courage, skill, and fertility. The men’s tattoos are obtained by hunting and headhunting, while the women’s tattoos are obtained by weaving and menstruating . The mug set is made from high-quality porcelain, with a matte glaze that gives a smooth and elegant finish. The texture of the matte glaze is designed to resemble the feel of human skin, giving the mug set a unique silk-like touch. This product is a perfect blend of tradition and innovation, showcasing the rich heritage and artistry of the Atayal tribe.
